The STEP files you open in PartCheck never leave your device. They are read and analysed in your browser, and there is nowhere for them to be uploaded to. There is no account, and PartCheck sets no cookies. What does reach anyone else is ordinary hosting traffic, anonymous visit counts, and feedback reports you choose to send. This page sets out each.

Who is responsible

PartCheck (partcheck.app) is run by Andreas Mysen, a private individual in Norway, who is the controller of the personal data described here. Write to support@partcheck.app about anything on this page.

Your files

A STEP file you open is read into your browser's memory and analysed there. The comparison, the wall measurement, the checks and the PDF reports are all made on your device, and a report is saved straight to it. Neither your files, their names, nor anything measured from them is sent anywhere — unless you put it in a feedback report yourself, as described below. Close the tab and they are gone.

Visiting the site

partcheck.app is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives your IP address and the technical details of each request — the address asked for, your browser, the time — in order to deliver the site and protect it from attacks and abuse. Cloudflare processes this on my behalf, under its data processing terms. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in running a website that works and is secure (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

The typeface and every other file the page needs come from partcheck.app itself. The page loads nothing from anyone else's servers, apart from the visit counter below.

Visit statistics

I count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, to learn which pages are read and how people find PartCheck. A small script from Cloudflare reports each page view. It stores nothing on your device — no cookies, no local storage — and Cloudflare does not use it to fingerprint or track individual visitors. What I see is totals: pages viewed, the sites visitors came from, countries, browsers and device types, and how fast pages load. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in knowing whether the site is used (Article 6(1)(f)).

Feedback reports

The feedback form sends exactly what it shows you, and only when you press Send:

  • your message;
  • unless you switch them off, diagnostics: the app's version, mode and settings, the size of any model you have open (its triangle count, and whether it is a closed solid), recent error messages with file names replaced by placeholders, and your browser, its language, the window size and the graphics card. The form lists every value before you send it;
  • only if you switch it on, a screenshot of the part as it is on screen.

The form asks for no name or email address, so a report is anonymous unless you write something in it that says who you are. If you want an answer, include an address in your message. Please don't attach a screenshot of a part you are not allowed to share.

To stop scripted abuse, Cloudflare counts how many reports each IP address sends in a minute. The address is not kept with the report. Reports are sent by email, through Cloudflare's Email Routing, to my mailbox, which is hosted by Google (Gmail). I keep a report as long as I need it to fix or answer what it raises, and delete it within 12 months. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in fixing and improving PartCheck (Article 6(1)(f)), on the strength of your choosing to send it.

What is kept in your browser

If you save materials of your own in the manufacturability settings, they are kept in your browser's local storage, on your device, so they are there next time. They are never sent anywhere. Delete them in the app, or clear the site's data in your browser. Nothing else is stored.

Outside the EEA

Cloudflare and Google are US companies, and data they handle may be processed in the United States. Both are certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission has found to give adequate protection, and both also use the Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to see the personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it is used, and to receive it in a portable form. Write to support@partcheck.app. Feedback reports are anonymous, so tell me roughly when you sent yours and what it said, and I can find it. If you think I have handled your data wrongly, you can complain to the Norwegian data protection authority, Datatilsynet.

Changes

If PartCheck starts handling data differently, this page will say so, with a new date at the top.
